Bio

Hi! I’m Alys from Canada.

*waves*

I’m an author and artist who’s endlessly curious about the world around me. Sometimes that curiosity becomes a story. Sometimes it becomes a painting. And sometimes it just gives me something new to wonder about…

I think I’ve always been a writer. In 2021, after many years of not writing at all, I sat down and wrote a short story called The Assistant. To my delight, it was published in a local newspaper.

I’m now expanding The Assistant into a longer story called This Business of Ghosts, while also working on a growing collection of other stories. Some are magical, some are funny (at least I hope they are), some are rebellious, and some are still figuring out what they want to be when they grow up.

And then there’s the art.

I’ve been obsessed with art for as long as I can remember. I collect art books and prints, and whenever I travel I inevitably end up wandering through art galleries and museums. Eventually, I decided to try making some art myself.

In 2025, I taught myself how to paint. Ten months later, I sold my first painting (that still feels kind of surreal).

I’m still figuring out where my art is going, but I keep finding myself drawn to flora and fauna, folk art, textiles, and things from the past. I like to make pieces that feel nostalgic and full of story.

I believe there’s always something new to learn, make, notice, or wonder about, and I have a tendency to follow interesting ideas down rabbit holes. This has resulted in me having more projects than I can handle but I don’t intend to stop anytime soon.

Try and stop me 😀
