Hello, Curious Mind!

I’m Alys (she/her), an author and visual artist from Niagara, Ontario, Canada. I love writing fiction and making digital art, and I’m a firm believer in staying curious. There’s always something new to learn, make, notice, or wonder about, and I don’t intend to stop anytime soon.

About Alys the Author

In 2021, after many years of not writing at all, I sat down and wrote a short story called The Assistant. To my delight, it was published in a local newspaper.

Apparently, that was enough to get the writing bug back.

I’m now expanding The Assistant into a longer story called This Business of Ghosts (yes, there will be more ghosts 👻), while also working on a growing collection of other stories. Some are magical, some are funny, some are rebellious and some are still figuring out what they want to be when they grow up.

About Alys the Artist

I’m obsessed with art. I collect art books and prints, and whenever I travel I spend a lot of my time wandering through art galleries and museums. So, naturally, I eventually decided to try making some art myself.

In 2025, I started teaching myself how to paint. Ten months later, I sold my first painting! I honestly can’t believe that.

I’m still exploring and experimenting with my art, but I keep finding myself drawn to flora and fauna, folk art, textiles, and anything with a slightly witchy air about it. I like things that feel nostalgic and full of story.

About Alys the Village Witch

I’ve always been drawn to the little bits of magic hiding in ordinary life: wild gardens, curious creatures, folklore, strange-looking houses, antique objects… I don’t claim to have any actual magical powers, but I do believe there’s something special about paying attention to the beautiful and curious world around us. So I guess “Village Witch” is my way of saying that I’m an enthusiastic believer in little everyday wonders.
